Information for New Students

New Students & Families,

Welcome to UMass Boston, and welcome to University Health Services, your on-campus health center.

New Student To-Do List:

1. Visit My Health Beacon Portal

The My Health Beacon Portal is a secure system that can be used to schedule and/or cancel appointments, send/receive messages from providers, upload immunization records, and view the status of immunization compliance.

2. Review Your Portal and Update Your Information

Review the information on the home page of the portal. This provides important information about the portal and what you can use it for.

  • Select the "Profile" tab to review your profile and make sure the information is correct and up-to-date.
  • You can edit your phone number and choose your phone carrier. (By choosing your phone carrier, you are permitting UHS to send you text reminders of the appointments that you schedule with our office.)

3. Submit Immunization Records and Tuberculosis Risk Assessment

Please read through the Immunization Requirements carefully and be sure to submit your immunization records as soon as possible.

Failure to submit records and complete the TB Screen-Risk Form may result in an administrative hold on your WISER account.

Students may be required to obtain Tuberculosis Testing 8 weeks after arriving in the United States.

4. Consent to Treat Minor Patient Form (Students Under 18 Upon Arrival)

MA law requires the consent of the parent or guardian for medical care of minors if your dependent is enrolled at UMass Boston before their 18th birthday and you want any healthcare provided by University Health Services.

Consent to Treat Minor Patients Form

To submit this form:

  • Drop Off: UHS General Medicine Clinic (Quinn Building, 2nd Floor)
  • Email: UHS@umb.edu.
  • Fax: 617-287-3977 (Attn: Consent to Treat Minor Form)
  • Mail:

UHS General Medicine
100 Morrissey Blvd.,
Boston, MA 02125

5. Review Mandatory Health Insurance

All students billed for the Student Health Insurance must either "confirm the enrollment" or "waive with comparable coverage" via WISER. Non-action by the deadline will result in enrollment by default.

6. Bystander Intervention Training Module

UMass Boston prides itself on being an anti-racist and health-promoting institution. One way in which we commit to these values is by providing you with training that will help you to be an active bystander. We want each student to have the knowledge and skills to intervene when anyone is observed to be harassed or endangered by sexual violence. All students must complete this mandatory training. This includes all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled part- or full-time, living on- or off-campus, and those in online programs.

Please note that you will receive an email from our training partner, Get Inclusive, whose training meets federal guidelines. Once this training is available to you, simply follow the link at the bottom of the email to begin the training. This self-paced training module will take around 20-30 minutes to complete. The training must be complete by the deadline in the email to avoid a hold being placed on your WISER account that will block you from course registration.

If you need our team to resend your access link, please email UHS@umb.edu
