Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) is a rapidly expanding, multidisciplinary academic field. The minor in NAIS at UMass Boston offers students an opportunity to engage in the academic theories and practical applications of the subject.

With a focus on historical and contemporary issues that impact Indigenous communities and nations in the United States and around the world, this field of study draws from numerous disciplines and programs across the College of Liberal Arts, including American studies; anthropology; English; environmental sciences; history; human rights; Latin American and Iberian studies; Latino studies;  political science; sociology; and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies.

The NAIS program also coordinates a number of resources and exciting opportunities for students to learn more about local, national, and international issues of concern to Indigenous communities. These include guest lectures, film screenings, and other events.
