UHS Resources for Faculty and Staff
University Health Services is committed to providing comprehensive support through a variety of wellness services, ensuring all faculty and staff have the resources they need to maintain their wellbeing and thrive both personally and professionally. While staff and faculty are not eligible for care within our clinics, University Health Services offers several resources:
Medical Services
- Health Insurance: Benefited faculty and staff are eligible for health, life, and long-term disability insurance coverage, as well as flexible spending accounts, through the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission (GIC). - Flu Shot Clinics: University Health Services has offered Fall Flu Clinics for the 2024-2025 flu season. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues to recommend that everyone ages six months and older strongly receive their seasonal flu vaccine every year. For more information on the flu shot, please visit MDPH or CDC.
Mental Health Services
- ComPsych Services: The University of Massachusetts Boston sponsors ComPsych GuidanceResources, your provider of employee assistance services (EAP). These benefits offer you and your dependents confidential support, resources, and information for personal and work-life issues. Whether it's personal matters, planning life events, or managing daily responsibilities, ComPsych GuidanceResources is here to help. These services are provided at no charge to you.

Confidential Support: Available to all faculty, staff, and family/household members. "Family member" includes individuals living in the same household, children away for the year (college students, non-custodial children), domestic partners, and elders needing services.
Counseling Services: Receive no-cost counseling for:
- Stress, anxiety, and depression
- Relationship/marital conflicts
- Problems with children
- Job pressures
- Grief and loss
- Substance abuse
Financial Consultation: Phone consultations with certified public accountants and financial planners on:
- Getting out of debt
- Credit card or loan problems
- Tax questions
- Retirement planning
- Estate planning
- Saving for college
Legal Support: Phone consultations with attorneys, with referrals for a free 30-minute consultation and a 25% reduction in customary legal fees. Call for:

Work-Life Resources: Specialists provide research and referrals for:
- Child and elder care

- “Ask the Expert” personal responses
- Searches for child care, elder care, attorneys, and financial planners
Work-Life Balance Workshops: ComPsych offers workshops focused on work-life balance. Check the currently available workshops.

- KORU Mindfulness: A national program developed at Duke University by mental health professionals, tailored to meet the needs of college students. It equips students with immediate tools to manage stress and improve overall well-being.

- Drop-In Meditations: Life can be hectic; take a moment for quiet reflection at our drop-in mindfulness sessions. Whether you attend regularly or occasionally, these sessions are open to all UMass Boston students, staff, and faculty. Click here to see upcoming drop-ins.

- Mental Health First Aid Training: MHFA teaches participants how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges and substance use disorders among adults. Dental Services
Starting in the Fall 2023 semester, University Health Services launched a collaboration with FlossTime, a mobile dental provider. FlossTime clinicians come on-campus to provide dental cleanings, dental exams, mobile x-rays, Invisalign scanning, and teeth whitening to the UMass Boston community. Optometry Services
Beginning in Fall 2024 semester, University Health Services began collaborating with 20/20 Onsite, a mobile optometry provider. The UMass Boston community can conveniently access vision screenings, eye exams, and eyewear on campus. Visit the 20/20 Onsite page for more information.

UHS Freebies
- Flu Kits: Includes essentials for flu season such as thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer, soup, and more (items may vary). Request at the UHS General Medicine Front Desk (Quinn Administration Building, 2nd Floor).
- Menstrual Products: Free pads and tampons are available in the UHS Lobby.
- Narcan Kits: Free kits including Narcan, fentanyl, and xylazine test strips, a CPR face shield, and overdose prevention information available for all UMass Boston community members. Reserve a pickup timeslot by calling the front desk at (617) 287-5660.
