Welcome to UHS General Medicine, UMass Boston's comprehensive on-campus health center. Our team of board-certified healthcare providers is here to support your health and well-being throughout your academic journey.
For effective communication, we offer Language Line translation services in over 240 languages during appointments.
General Medicine Care
Our team addresses a wide range of health concerns, from common illnesses to chronic conditions:

Sexual & Reproductive Health Services
Our comprehensive services include confidential and compassionate care for your sexual and reproductive health needs.
- Birth Control: We offer education, counseling, and a range of options, including oral contraceptives, rings (NuvaRing), and shots (Depo-Provera).
- We also provide referrals for implants (Nexplanon), intrauterine devices (IUDs), and diaphragms.

- Emergency Contraception: Also known as the morning-after pill, counseling and prescriptions are available to you free of charge.

- HPV Vaccinations: We provide the vaccine that helps prevent five types of cancer.
- Menstrual-Related Concerns: We can help with a variety of menstrual issues.
- Pain Evaluations: We offer evaluations for pelvic pain and painful sex symptoms.
- PrEP & PEP: We provide HIV prevention medications and counseling.
- Vaginal Exams: These services include Pap tests and follow-ups.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI): We offer confidential testing and treatment for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, HIV, HPV, Syphilis, and more.

- UMass Boston students have access to confidential, safe, and effective medication abortion care directly at University Health Services.
- Our team can provide medication abortion directly or connect you with trusted local and telehealth providers.

Travelwell Services
Get prepared for international travel with tailored vaccine recommendations and counseling. Please book your appointment about 3 months before your trip. UHS will help you prepare for international travel with the following:
- Counseling and Education: Information and educational materials concerning health risks in destination countries.
- Travel Vaccines: Tailored recommendations and vaccinations based on destination and health history to prevent illness.
- Medication Evaluation: Depending on the destination, medications may be recommended to prevent relevant illnesses or symptoms while traveling.

Immunizations & Lab Services Tuberculosis Testing
Ensure you're protected and up to date on your health screenings.
- Required Immunizations: We provide all immunizations required by the university, including Hepatitis B, MMR, MCV4, Tdap, Tetanus-Diphtheria, and Varicella.
- Routine & Preventative Vaccine: We also offer recommended vaccines for HPV, seasonal influenza, Meningococcal B, and more.
- Tuberculosis Testing: Get required tuberculosis testing on campus.
- Laboratory Services: Our in-house lab and partnership with Quest Diagnostics offer a wide range of tests, from in-house strep and flu tests to specialized external lab services.
On-Campus Mobile Clinics
We partner with mobile providers to bring essential services right to you on campus.
Dental Services (FlossTime)
Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, University Health Services launched a collaboration with FlossTime, a mobile dental provider. FlossTime clinicians come on-campus to provide dental cleanings, dental exams, mobile x-rays, Invisalign scanning, and teeth whitening to the UMass Boston community. Mammograms (3D Breast Cancer Screenings)
In partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Mammography Van will be on campus to provide convenient digital 3D breast cancer screenings. The American College of Radiology recommends an annual mammogram for anyone age 40 or older. The appointment is quick and easy, taking about 20 minutes.
This service is open to eligible students, staff, and faculty, and is a key part of our campus-wide efforts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Optometry Services
Beginning in Fall 2024 semester, University Health Services began collaborating with 20/20 Onsite, a mobile optometry provider. The UMass Boston community can conveniently access vision screenings, eye exams, and eyewear on campus. Visit the 20/20 Onsite page for more information.

Physical Therapy (Elliott Physical Therapy)
We're excited to announce that physical therapy services will also be available on campus, starting in early October 2025. This resource is open to all students, staff, and faculty.
You may need a referral depending on your insurance plan, so we recommend you check with your provider. For those with SHIP (Student Health Insurance Plan), you can self-refer and book an appointment directly. You will be responsible for your normal co-pay, but some insurance plans may have a $0 co-pay.

UHS Freebies
Emergency Contraception
Safe and effective birth control you can use to prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse.
Students can access it for free via sExpress (click here to place your order) or by appointment at UHS.

Flu Kits
Includes essentials for flu season such as thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer, soup, and more.
Request at the UHS General Medicine Front Desk (Quinn Administration Building, 2nd Floor).
Menstrual Products
Free pads and tampons are available in the UHS Lobby and patient bathroom.
Narcan Kits
Free kits including Narcan, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, a CPR face shield, and overdose prevention information available for all UMass Boston community members.

Safer Sex Supplies
Condoms are available in the UHS Lobby and exam rooms.
sExpress is a free safer sex supply service for students on campus. Free resources include emergency contraception, external latex and latex-free condoms, flavored latex dental dams, personal lubricants, pregnancy tests, and educational materials. Click here to place your order!

Sharps Containers
University Health Services can provide sharps containers for all students, staff, and faculty for personal use, which can be returned and replaced at UHS when full. Please stop by UHS during office hours for this service.
