Confined Spaces
The purpose of this plan is to develop a comprehensive written procedure for UMass Boston faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors to utilize during entry into confined spaces. It also establishes requirements for minimum safe work procedures in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146. It is the policy of the University of Massachusetts Boston, in coordination with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS), to provide the UMass Boston community with a safe and healthy environment. Note that UMass Boston faculty, staff and students will not enter a confined spaces unless with the permission of OEHS.
Confined Space Safety Assessment (CSSA) forms are developed for each confined space type to be entered prior to any entry. These documents listed below have been created to assist in the hazard assessment and classification process for entry. Contact OEHS if a Confined Space Safety Assessment is not available for the space to be entered.
