Nancy McCormack (1980 Raynham, MA) is a multimedia artist working in Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, and Performance. Nancy holds a BFA in Painting in 2002 from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and an MFA in Studio Practice in 2012 from The City College of New York (CUNY). She has also worked extensively in archives, specifically book and paper conservation. Nancy’s artwork engages with practices of personal development and the theatricality of constructed identity as well as the failure of Modernism and its effects on individual identity. She has exhibited nationally and abroad.
Nancy was a visiting fellow for two consecutive years at Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik in Berlin where she conducted research and completed a project questioning contemporary practices of popular psychology entitled, “Extreme Makeover: Miserable Escapist Finds Pleasure When Relieved of Suffering.” In the summer of 2017, Nancy was a visiting artist at Hope College in Holland, Michigan where she produced “Out of Nature,” a solo exhibition of work depicting constructed artifacts and objects and which questioned the value of such insignificant objects as cultural signifiers when taken out of context. Nancy is the Technical Specialist in Printmaking in the Art Department. Previously, she managed the Printmaking Studios at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. She is interested in technical instruction and the contemporary value of hands-on training.
