Additional Information

Modeled after the Pelagic Fisheries Research Group (PFRP) in the Pacific, the Large Pelagics Research Center (LPRC) began as a center to stimulate and conduct research on key species of interest to commercial and recreational fisheries and marine ecosystems in the Atlantic Ocean. The center, established in 2003 at the University of New Hampshire, functioned as an academic research group and as a coordinator and source of extramural funding for other large pelagic species research.

In 2015, LPRC joined the School for the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Boston. LPRC is based in Gloucester, MA but members are also co-located on the UMass Boston harbor campus. Students working with members of the LPRC have access to both sites and to all of the resources the city and rocky intertidal have to offer.
