Jerome Klassen is a research fellow with the MIT Center for International Studies. His research specialization is in the area of international political economy, with a focus on U.S. grand strategy, transnational corporate networks, and Canadian foreign policy in Afghanistan, Haiti, and the Middle East. Previously, he was Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT, where he worked with Professor Noam Chomsky. He has published two university press books and various book chapters and journal articles. His latest book, Joining Empire: The Political Economy of the New Canadian Foreign Policy (University of Toronto Press, 2014), has received several academic awards. His first book, Empire’s Ally: Canada and the War in Afghanistan (University of Toronto Press, 2013), offers a multi-faceted assessment of the war in Afghanistan since 2001. Professor Klassen also held a postdoctoral position with the International Development Studies Program at Saint Mary’s University. He has been a visiting lecturer at various universities, and specializes in teaching International Relations, Global Political Economy, Development Economics, and International Relations Theory.
