Carol Chandler-Rourke has been teaching writing as well as tutor training and graduate teacher-training courses at UMass/Boston since 1984 and has more than three decades of experience in community development, civic engagement and developing community-university partnerships. Formerly the Deputy Director of the Haitian Multi-Service Center in Dorchester (1984-1996) and Director of Community Building at the Massachusetts state Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORI) (1997-2013), Carol’s work has focused on creating leadership opportunities for immigrants and refugees, developing community-university partnerships and strengthening community-based organizations at the national, state and grassroots level. Since 1989, Carol has coordinated the Community University Project for Literacy (CUPL) at UMB.
