Commencement 2020 Announcement: Message from Interim Chancellor Katherine Newman
April 14, 2020
Registrar Valerie Corrente and Vice Provost for Research and Strategic Initiatives and Dean of Graduate Studies Bala Sundaram emailed graduate students on April 14 to tell them that for the spring 2020 semester only, graduate students can opt for a SAT (Satisfactory) grade in up to 2 courses (up to a maximum of 8 credits) for PhD/master's degrees and 1 course (up to 4 credits) if enrolled in a certificate program. Exceptions to the SAT offer are noted here. Students requesting the SAT grade should submit the form on the Registrar's website to their graduate program director for approval and submission to sarah.bartlett@umb.edu for processing. The deadline for submitting SAT requests is May 13, 2020.
In addition, the Registrar’s Office will not be noting any Academic Standing calculations or notations to student records for the spring 2020 semester, and all graduate students have been pre-approved for a one year extension (through May of 2021) of the statute of limitations. Students who want to opt-in need to fill out the SPRING 2020 Statute of Limitations extension form on the Registrar's website and send it to the Registrar’s Office at sarah.bartlett@umb.edu.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which was passed into law on March 18, extends certain additional benefits to employees. These include paid sick leave for COVID-19-related illness and expanded family and medical leave to address lack of childcare due to COVID-19. The provisions of FFCRA go into effect on April 1, 2020 and will extend through December 31, 2020.
Please see the FFCRA Informational Poster provided by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Human Resources is coordinating with colleagues across the UMass system, including the Office of the General Counsel, to gather guidance for interpreting and implementing the provisions of this new act.
Employees with questions about the act as it pertains to their personal situations should contact Lori Sullivan in Human Resources at lori.sullivan@umb.edu or at 617.287.6615.
