Distribution Services

General Responsibilities

  • Distribution services is responsible for handling all mail and packages from USPS, UPS, FedEx Hub, and any other trucking company that delivers directly to UMass Boston.
  • With the exception of some capital equipment (which requires inventory and tagging by the Property Control Department), Distribution Services staff are responsible for the delivery of such items.
  • Distribution Services staff also manage outgoing USPS mail and inter-departmental mail circulation.
  • Distribution Services stocks USPS, UPS, and FedEx shipping supplies (labels, boxes, envelopes, etc.)
  • Delivery of personal packages by Distribution Services staff is prohibited.

Correspondence for the residence halls is NOT handled through Distribution Services.Please contact 617.287.6011 for information.

Surplus Services

Removing Surplus Equipment

To request removal of Surplus items, please complete this DocuSign Surplus Form. Surplus storage generally contains used file cabinets, bookshelves, chairs, desks, and worktables. Distribution Services staff determine the disposition of furniture and whether a piece is salvageable or worth saving for refurbishment. Furniture will be re-evaluated periodically to determine whether it remains in storage or is recycled.

Requesting Surplus Furniture

To request surplus furniture, please contact us. Please be specific about your needs. The following categories of items are generally available:

  • Desks
  • Tables
  • Filing Cabinets
  • Storage Cabinets
  • Bookcases
  • Chairs
  • Miscellaneous

Hours of Operation

7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when the university is open. 

If the university is closed—due to weather or a holiday, for instance—Distribution Services is closed.

Service and Supply Building, Lower Level, at the Central Receiving Dock.
