If your aim is to build a future as a leader who promotes health equity in urban populations, UMass Boston's Urban Public Health Bachelor of Science program is for you. You will acquire fundamental knowledge of public health science, education, and practice as well as an aptitude for critical problem solving, analysis and interpretation of data, and an understanding of socio-economic and cultural diversity among people in urban settings. You will also participate in real-world public health practice experiences in community settings, governmental agencies, private sector, and health organizations.

Emerge from this program prepared to:

• Develop analytical skills to assess health disparities and social and environmental determinants health in urban populations
• Acquire knowledge and skills in designing and implementing health promotion and education initiatives in urban settings
• Gain an understanding of community engagement and collaboration strategies to address public health challenges in urban areas
• Prepare for graduate school including medical school

Career Possibilities

Work directly with individuals and communities to promote health and wellness as a community health worker. Develop and implement health education programs tailored to urban and health disparity populations as a health educator. Or, evaluate existing policies and assess their impact on public health in urban areas as a policy analyst. These are just a few of the possibilities.
