UMass Boston’s Spanish-English Translation Certificate is designed to expand your knowledge and improve your skills in oral or written translation. It focuses on learning, improving, or expanding your knowledge and skills in oral or written translation of English and Spanish.

This program is designed for bilingual (English-Spanish) speakers who want to hone their skills and add a certification to their résumé. Explore the history, principles, theory, and practice of oral and written translation. Practice the techniques of legal, medical, technical, general, and literary translation and learn to work with a wide variety of online dictionaries, reference materials, and other tools and resources used by professional translators.

You’ll also improve your knowledge of English and Spanish syntaxes, morphologies, and semantic systems. You will be able to apply these skills to meet the increasing local, national, and international demand for professional translators, and help overcome the challenges of modern multicultural, multilingual societies.

Outcomes & Careers

At the end of this two-semester program, you’ll be awarded a professional certificate in Spanish-English translation. The certificate will demonstrate your expertise in the field on your résumé, as well as in interviews and workplace evaluations. With your certificate, you'll be able to meet the increasing demand for local, national, and international demand for professionals, educators, and students interested in meeting the challenges of modern multicultural, multilingual societies.

Application Fee: The nonrefundable application fee is $75. UMass Boston alumni and current students that plan to complete degree requirements prior to graduate enrollment can submit the application without paying the application fee.
